Our story

Any size of project, from private houses to industry

At K & B Screeding Ltd, we provide all types of screeding for buildings ranging from private houses right up to large industrial projects. It doesn’t matter the size of your project. We will be able to help you by finding the best option for you and your building needs.

The company was set up in November 2019 by director Donatas Bardisevicius and is registered in England and Wales (company number 12298780). Our screeders bring more than ten years of hands-on screeding experience between them. That experience shows in the parts of the job nobody sees once the floor covering goes down: the preparation, the mix, the compaction and the levelling.

You can check our record on the public register at Companies House: the company is active, its accounts and confirmation statement are up to date, and Donatas has been its director since it was formed. See our company information for the details.

We work across 25 counties, mainly Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, London, Surrey, Sussex and Northamptonshire, with a page for every town on our areas we cover. You can see our own projects in the gallery and read what customers say on our testimonials page.

The basics

What is screed?

If you are new to screeding, here is the short version: what it is, what it does and why it matters to your finished floor.

Definition

Screed is a layer laid over a concrete slab or insulation to give a level, smooth base for flooring. It is either a sand and cement mix or a flowing screed, usually calcium sulphate based.

Purpose

The primary function of a floor screed is to provide a level, smooth and durable surface for the installation of various flooring types.

Materials

Sand, cement and water for traditional screed; calcium sulphate (anhydrite) or cement binders for flowing screed. Additives or fibres can speed drying or add strength.

Types of screed

Traditional screed
A mixture of sand, cement and water, mixed and applied on site.
Liquid screed
A plant-mixed flowing screed, usually calcium sulphate based, pumped onto the floor and self levelling.

Applications

Residential
Used in homes for levelling floors before installing flooring such as tiles, wood or carpets.
Commercial
Used in warehouses, retail spaces and other commercial buildings for durability and a level surface.
Industrial
Used in industrial settings for heavy-duty applications requiring a robust and even surface.

Why it matters

Benefits of a properly laid screed

  • Level surface Provides a smooth and even base for flooring installation.
  • Durability Screed can be made to withstand heavy traffic and wear and tear.
  • Versatility Can be tailored in terms of thickness and composition to suit specific needs.
  • Cost-effective A cost-effective and labour-efficient option for constructing floors.
  • Underfloor heating Liquid screed flows fully around underfloor heating pipes; sand and cement is compacted around them by hand.
