Windsor is about 4 miles south of our Slough base, which makes it one of the easiest places for us to reach and means we can usually look at a floor at short notice. It is also a town with more than its share of period property, and screeding in older buildings needs a slightly different approach from a modern new build.
Screeding for Windsor's period homes
Windsor, Eton and the surrounding villages have a large stock of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian houses, many in conservation areas and some listed. When these homes are renovated or extended, the floors are often the hardest part:
- Uneven, sloping floors that must be brought level without creating steps to adjoining rooms.
- Old solid floors without a damp proof membrane, which need careful detailing before a new screed goes on.
- Restricted floor heights under existing doors, thresholds and staircases.
- Mixed construction, where a new extension joins an old house and the two floors must meet exactly.
We check the base first, then choose the right approach. Where depth is limited, a thin bonded screed or a floor levelling compound over a sound base may be all that is needed. Where the old floor has failed, we break it out and relay it properly. Our screed repairs page explains how we decide between repair and replacement.
If your home is listed, changes to floors may need listed building consent. We work to the details your architect or conservation officer has agreed.
Extensions and modern homes
Alongside its period property, Windsor has plenty of later housing in Clewer, Dedworth and Old Windsor, and a steady stream of extensions and new builds. For heated kitchen and garden room extensions we usually recommend liquid screed, which flows fully around underfloor heating pipes and leaves a flat floor for tiles or engineered wood. For smaller rooms and wet areas, a traditional sand and cement screed is often the better fit.
Near the river
Parts of Windsor, Eton, Datchet and Old Windsor sit close to the Thames on low lying ground. On these sites the damp proof membrane, insulation and finished floor level deserve extra attention. We can install the full build-up under the screed, including insulation and membranes, and work to any flood resilient details your designer specifies.
Working in period streets
Windsor's older streets and conservation areas are beautiful places to live but can be tight places to work. Parking is often limited, front gardens are small and many houses are terraced with no side access. We plan these jobs carefully: agreeing where the mixer or pump will stand, arranging any parking permission the council requires, and routing hoses and materials through the house with floors, stairs and door frames protected. Inside, we take care around original joinery, skirting and flooring that is staying. The aim is simple: a new floor that is level and sound, and a period home left exactly as we found it everywhere else.
Why Windsor customers choose K & B Screeding
- On the doorstep. Windsor is about 4 miles from our Slough base, so we respond quickly and can visit at short notice.
- Care with older buildings. We take the time to understand an old floor before we touch it.
- Honest recommendations. Sometimes a thin levelling compound is the answer, not a new screed, and we will say so.
- Fixed prices. The price agreed at the start is the price you pay.
- Clean, respectful working. We protect your home and leave it tidy.
Areas of Windsor we cover
We work across Windsor and the surrounding area, including the town centre, Clewer, Dedworth, Old Windsor, Eton, Eton Wick, Datchet, Wraysbury, Horton and Englefield Green. We also cover Maidenhead to the west and our home town of Slough, where we lay both sand screed and liquid screed.
Screeding prices in Windsor
Published 2026 UK figures put sand and cement screed at about £18 to £25 per m² and liquid screed at about £24 to £31 per m², supplied and laid (MyJobQuote, August 2026). MyJobQuote does not say whether these figures include VAT. Depth, access and preparation move the figure either way, so your price is fixed in writing within 24 hours of hearing about the floor. See our floor screeding cost guide or the screed calculator.
