Matching a screed to Chertsey's old and new homes
Census 2021 recorded 6,198 households in the Chertsey built-up area, and 30% of its homes were built since 2000. That leaves a large older stock alongside a lot of recent building, and the floor usually follows the age of the house.
Chertsey grew up around a Benedictine abbey founded in AD 666, and its conservation area holds more than 56 listed buildings, mostly from the 16th and 17th centuries. Behind those old frontages, a ground floor can turn out to sit directly on the soil, with nothing underneath to stop the damp. Any new floor has to suit both the building and the conservation rules, and where a small room needs rebuilding by hand, sand and cement screed in Chertsey is the traditional route.
Interwar and post-war semis are the usual base for extensions and kitchen diners in the town. Knocking the back of one of those semis into a kitchen diner leaves a big open floor, and pumped liquid screed flattens itself across it and can be walked on 24 to 48 hours later. If the extension has a wet heating system, see underfloor heating screed for pipe cover and the heat-up.
At Longcross and the town's other new homes and flats, the usual build is liquid screed poured over heating pipes; if your drawings list a calcium sulphate grade, read the Chertsey anhydrite screed page. Corporate sites such as the UK head office of Samsung Electronics and the Compass Group head office need flat, durable floors, and that work falls under our commercial screeding service.

Access and timing for a Chertsey screed
We cover the whole of Chertsey, including St Ann's Hill, Fan Grove and the riverside estate at Bridge Wharf, out to Longcross, which has been growing since the late 2010s. Postcodes here include KT16.
Access varies a lot across the town. In the conservation area, buildings have narrow frontages set hard against the pavement, which leaves little room outside. A liquid screed pour needs the mixer truck and pump to stand close by while a hose is run inside, so on a street like that we plan where the vehicles stand and how the hose reaches the room before the day. A hand-laid sand and cement floor brings its own needs, with a mixer and a load of sand to place somewhere nearby.
Then there is the question of when. We pour once the glazing and doors keep the rain out, and after the heating engineer has fixed the pipes and pressure tested them. From then on the flooring waits on the drying, which takes about a day for each of the first 40 millimetres and longer for every one after. Other trades can usually carry on around a liquid screed after a day or two.
Give us your build dates early. We can then fix a pour date that suits the builder, the heating engineer and the flooring fitter.
