Liquid Screed Contractors in Chertsey

We pump and lay liquid screed in Chertsey for extensions, kitchen diners, flats and new homes. With 31% of homes in Chertsey being flats, a pumped screed has an easy advantage: it reaches an upper floor by hose rather than by barrow. Because the mix finds its own level, a whole floor goes down in a day and is ready for careful footsteps after 24 to 48 hours.

Where liquid screed earns its place in Chertsey

Liquid screed is mixed at the plant, delivered ready to use and pumped straight onto insulation, a membrane or a slab. Because it flows and settles, a large area goes down in a day and the finish readily reaches SR1 or SR2 flatness, which thin finishes like LVT need.

Three kinds of floor in Chertsey are a natural fit. The first is the kitchen diner or rear extension on an interwar or post-war semi, the usual base for that kind of project in the town. One continuous pour covers the whole open area with far fewer joints than a hand-laid screed and very little shrinkage. The second is the flat, where the hose can go up a stairwell and the screed fills an awkward plan without voids. The third is the new home. Since 2015, 13% of Chertsey's homes have gone up, and at Longcross and elsewhere new houses and flats are normally poured in liquid screed over heating pipes.

Depth is lower than for a traditional floor. Over insulation in a home it can go as thin as about 35mm, or 40mm for a commercial floor, against 65mm for a sand and cement one. Pipes need 25mm or more above them, bringing most heated floors to 45 to 50mm.

You can choose a calcium sulphate or a cement based mix. We pick between them by looking at the room, the flooring and any chance of water. For how pumped and hand-laid floors compare, read liquid or sand and cement: which to choose; grades and laitance are on our Chertsey anhydrite screed page.

Pumping screed into Chertsey houses and flats

Getting the hose to the room is the planning part of a liquid screed job. We bring the lorry and pump up as near as the street allows and feed the hose in at a door or window. If the house has a drive, there is nothing to arrange. With parking on the road, or at a block of flats with a communal entrance, we check where the truck can stand and how the hose will reach the floor before the day.

Flat owners replacing a floor have one extra thing to protect: the acoustic layers that stop sound travelling to the flat below. Those have to stay intact, so the build-up under the new screed is checked before anything is poured.

Indoors, the prep must be finished first. Edge strip goes round the walls, the membrane is taped so screed cannot run beneath it, and door openings are dammed. The pour itself takes hours. The room then stays closed to foot traffic until the next day, and drying for flooring runs at roughly a day per millimetre for the first 40mm.

Where the truck cannot get close enough, a screed pumping setup with a longer line may still reach. For projects in the next town, we lay liquid screed in Addlestone too.

FAQs

Liquid Screed in Chertsey: your questions

Is liquid screed suitable for a Chertsey kitchen diner?

Usually, yes. A kitchen diner is a wide, open floor, often part new extension and part original house, and a pumped screed covers it in one pour with few joints. If it will carry underfloor heating, the screed flows fully around the pipes. Only rooms that may stay wet need a cement based product instead.

How long does liquid screed take to dry?

You can cross it after 24 to 48 hours, yet flooring has to wait far longer, since it dries at about a day per millimetre through the first 40mm and more slowly below that. A 50mm floor over heating can take several weeks. On a Chertsey new build, the heating can help dry a calcium sulphate screed, and a moisture test confirms when it is ready.

What does liquid screed cost compared with traditional screed?

On 2026 UK figures, pumped liquid runs at £24 to £31 per m² and traditional sand and cement at £18 to £25 per m². Liquid screed is laid thinner and faster, so on a large Chertsey floor the gap narrows. On a small room, the fixed cost of the truck and pump makes sand and cement better value.
