Slough is changing fast. The arrival of the Elizabeth line has brought a wave of new apartment schemes and regeneration to the town centre, while homeowners across Langley, Cippenham, Burnham and Farnham Royal continue to extend and modernise. Liquid screed suits much of that work, and as a Slough based company we pour it across the whole town.
Liquid, or flow, screed is pumped from a mixing truck straight onto the prepared floor. It levels itself as it goes down, encapsulates underfloor heating pipes completely, and can cover a large ground floor in a single visit.
Liquid screed for Slough extensions
Kitchen and family room extensions with underfloor heating, often run from a heat pump, are a common project in Slough's semis and terraces. Liquid screed suits them perfectly:
- It flows fully around the heating pipes, with no air pockets, so the floor heats evenly and responds quickly.
- It can be laid thinner than sand and cement over the pipes, saving build height and speeding up the heat-up.
- It is very flat, which suits large format tiles, LVT and engineered wood.
- It is quick. Most extensions are poured in a morning and the floor is usually walkable within 24 to 48 hours.

New builds and apartment developments in Slough
On new build schemes, speed and consistency matter. Liquid screed lets us pour whole floors of apartments or several houses in a day, to a consistent depth and surface regularity. We work as a subcontractor to developers and main contractors, planning pump positions, hose routes and phasing with the site team, and we supply risk assessments and method statements before we start. See our commercial screeding page for how we work on larger projects.
Preparation makes the difference
Because liquid screed is fluid, the preparation beneath it has to be perfect. Before every pour we make sure:
- Insulation is level, fully supported and tightly jointed.
- A slip membrane is lapped and taped, and turned up at the edges.
- Edge strip is fixed around every wall and upstand.
- Underfloor heating pipes are securely clipped, pressure tested and filled.
- Every gap, doorway and service penetration is sealed.
We can supply and install this build-up ourselves through our insulation and membranes service, so the whole floor is under one set of hands.
Pumping in Slough
The pump or mixer truck normally parks on the road or driveway, and the screed is pumped through a hose to the room. On typical Slough semis the hose runs down the side of the house or through the property to a rear extension. We protect floors along the route, plan the parking in advance, and leave everything clean.
After the pour
Once poured, the room is closed off for the first day or two, then ventilated. Calcium sulphate liquid screeds form a thin surface laitance that is sanded off before flooring, and they need a compatible primer before tiling. Where underfloor heating is fitted, it can usually be used to help dry the screed after about a week. We explain everything you or your flooring installer need to know. Our guide on how long screed takes to dry covers moisture testing.
For smaller rooms and wet rooms, a traditional sand screed in Slough may suit better, and a skim of floor levelling compound can perfect the finish for thin floor coverings.
What to have ready on pour day
A liquid screed pour goes smoothly when a few things are ready before we arrive: underfloor heating pipes pressure tested and left filled, windows and doors in so the room can be closed off, a clear route from the road to the room, water available on site, and the room empty of stored materials. We confirm this list with you or your builder a few days beforehand.
