Floor grinding for Hatfield Business Park refits
Commercial floors collect layers. A warehouse at Hatfield Business Park may have painted aisles and a worn floor coating; an office may have carpet tile adhesive over a screed that was never quite flat; a campus building may have lips at old partition lines and ridges where bays were poured on different days. Before a new occupier's flooring, a levelling compound or a resin system from another contractor goes down, those layers and lumps have to go.
Diamond grinding does that. Segments set in rotating heads cut the surface down in thin passes, taking off paint, glue, laitance and the top of any proud ridge or trowel mark. What is left is a clean, open, sound surface that primers and adhesives can grip.
On a large floor we plan the work in zones so other trades can keep moving, and we match the order to the fit-out: grind first, then concrete floor repair for spalled joints and cracks, then levelling or a new screed. Where a warehouse needs a fresh high strength topping instead, our commercial screeding covers it.
We are the contractor, not a supplier: the grinders and diamond tooling stay with us and are not for sale or hire. Resin and polished concrete are not finishes we lay. Where a coating is thick or the area very large, shot blasting or scarifying can be quicker, and we will say so when we look at the floor.
Grinding floors in Hatfield homes and extensions
Homes need grinding on a smaller scale. Some 17% of Hatfield's homes were built between 1973 and 1999, and a floor of that age that has had vinyl or carpet glued down more than once can carry a stubborn film of old adhesive. New primers will not hold to it, so it is ground off first.
Extensions are the other household job. When a heated extension is added to one of the newer homes on the old aerodrome land, the new slab or screed rarely lands at exactly the height of the floor it joins. Grinding takes the proud edge down, and a thin latex screed can then give the whole area one smooth face. In the new town terraces, where uneven concrete slabs are common, we grind the humps and then hand over to floor levelling in Hatfield for the hollows, since grinding alone cannot fill a dip or correct a slope.
We keep a close eye on depth. A screed that loses too much to the grinder ends up weaker than its design allows, so we measure before removing more than the surface.
Dust control is not optional. The machine runs with extraction at the head, doorways are sealed and adjoining rooms protected, because cutting concrete and screed puts silica into the air.
