Pumped screed in Evesham's newer homes and flats
The case for liquid screed is strongest on large, open floors. A kitchen extension on a later estate home, a knocked-through living space or a new garden room can be poured in one operation. Left to flow, it settles flat by itself and gets to SR1 or SR2 without much effort, and with so little shrinkage it needs far fewer joints than a floor laid by hand.
Flats are 17% of Evesham's homes. Upper floors are where a pump really saves effort: the hose runs up the stairwell to the room, with no bags or barrows on the stairs and no mess carried through communal areas.
Depth is the other advantage. Floated over insulation in a house, a pumped floor can be as thin as about 35mm where a hand-laid one needs about 65mm, so it is easier to finish flush with existing doors and thresholds.
Pumped screed is made with either a calcium sulphate or a cement binder, and which you want rests on the room, the flooring and the chance of water reaching the floor. On a ground floor near the Avon that could flood, the cement based version is the one to use. For tiles, LVT or engineered wood, the flatter finish of a pumped floor often means less preparation before the covering goes down. The calcium sulphate kind has its own Evesham anhydrite screed page, and if you are torn between a pump and a hand-laid floor, our guide weighing pumped against hand-laid screed helps.
Getting the pump to an Evesham pour
The mixer and pump work from outside the house, ideally on a drive close to the door nearest the room. If the house has no drive, the pump could be parked on the street for the few hours we are pouring, so mention any parking limits, tight lanes or shared access when you ask us to quote.
The hose can run a long way inside, through a hall or up a staircase, but the route needs to be clear. Move furniture, bikes and boxes out of the way beforehand and the pour starts on time. Before pouring, the edge strip, membrane and taped joints are checked, and doorways are dammed to hold the screed in the right room. We can supply the whole base layer through our insulation and membrane service.
You can tread on it carefully within 48 hours, yet flooring has to wait until it has properly dried out. As a guide, budget one day per millimetre up to 40mm and longer for anything thicker. The same service is available about 12 miles away as liquid screed in Stratford-upon-Avon.
