Where pumped screed fits in Tewkesbury
Liquid screed pays off on wide, open floors. A rear extension that joins a kitchen and dining room, a garden room or a whole ground floor of a new house can be poured in one visit, and the result is dense and flat enough to reach SR1 or SR2 surface regularity.
Homes built since 2000 make up 20% of Tewkesbury's stock, and the Garden Town sites, including the proposed 2,800 homes at North Ashchurch, will add many more. Plots like these are designed around insulation and underfloor heating with a flowing screed on top. On an existing house, a rear extension or knock-through is the same idea on a smaller scale.
The build-up underneath decides how deep the screed is. Floating on insulation, it needs roughly 35mm in a house, rising to 40mm under commercial use. Over heating pipes you want at least 25mm of screed on top, which takes the total to 45 to 50mm. Before pouring we look over every layer underneath, right out to the foam strip at the wall edges, so the screed is free to float.
Some liquid screeds are calcium sulphate and others are cement based. The calcium sulphate kind is covered in depth on our anhydrite flow screed page for Tewkesbury. In a ground floor room exposed to flood risk, a cement based flowing screed is usually the better pick, and we will say so when we price.

Getting the pump to a Tewkesbury doorstep
Only the hose comes indoors; the lorry and pump stay outside. If the lorry can pull up on your driveway, the setup is quick. On a terraced street or near the old centre around the High Street, the lorry may need to park further away with a longer hose run, so tell us about parking and access when you ask for a price.
Upper floors are no harder than ground floors once the hose is in. Flats account for 17% of homes in Tewkesbury, and to get to an upstairs flat we feed the hose up through the stairwell or a window.
Drying follows the depth. Allow about one day per millimetre for the first 40mm; a thicker floor slows down beyond that. Good ventilation helps. No floor covering goes on until a hygrometer reading shows the floor has dried enough, and our screed drying explainer goes through the figures.
If pipes are going under it, screed for heated floors deals with cover depth and commissioning. If your project is in Cheltenham, see our liquid screed in Cheltenham page.
