Preparing unit floors at Vale Park and Four Pools
Vale Park was set up as an employment site in the late 1990s and now serves food and farming businesses as a Food Enterprise Zone. Four Pools Industrial Estate is where Evesham's trade suppliers gather, Screwfix, Jewson and Howdens among them. Floors in packhouses, cold stores and trade counters take pallet trucks, crates and constant cleaning, and when a unit is re-let or refitted its surface usually carries the marks.
Diamond grinding is the first step back to a usable base. Heads set with diamond segments spin across the slab and cut it down a fraction at a time, removing worn sealers, painted lines, thin coatings, old adhesive under office vinyl and the soft laitance on a screed. The same pass takes down ridges and trowel marks, and the lips where two concrete bays meet at slightly different heights.
What goes on next shapes how far we go. A specialist laying resin wants an open, clean profile, which we can leave for them, although resin and polished concrete are not finishes K & B lays. For a trade counter or office, the next layer is often compound and vinyl, and for a damaged wearing surface it might be a new screed through our commercial screed for a worn unit floor.
Grinding has a clear limit. It removes local high points, but it cannot correct a floor that falls or dips across a wide area, and grinding a screed hard can leave it thinner than its minimum. The usual answer is to grind the peaks and fill the low ground with compound or screed. Where a coating is thick or the area is very large, shot blasting or scarifying may be quicker, both part of our shot blasting and wider floor preparation.
Grinding Evesham homes after flooding or flooring changes
Homes bring smaller jobs. Refurbishment after a flood is one. Once a ground floor has been stripped back, the slab underneath can be left with patches of old adhesive, tile bed and staining, and whatever is sound and staying needs grinding clean before a new layer will bond. Floors that have lost strength or come loose need concrete floor repair rather than grinding alone.
Extensions on the later estates are another. Where a new slab meets the original floor, a small ridge often runs along the old wall line, and grinding it down lets levelling across the join give one flat surface for LVT or tiles.
Then there are garages being converted, with oil, paint or old coatings to remove, and rooms where carpet or vinyl has been lifted to reveal hard black adhesive.
Whatever the job, dust control comes first. Concrete, screed and ceramic tiles all contain silica, and grinding them releases a fine dust that is harmful if breathed in. We grind only with extraction attached to the machine, seal off doorways and protect neighbouring rooms. We are a contractor, so the grinding comes with our team: nobody hires or buys a grinder or diamond tooling from us. For unit floors about 14 miles away, see concrete grinding in Cheltenham.
