Pumped floors for Ashby Fields and Southbrook extensions
The appeal of liquid screed is simple. The mix travels by hose from the truck to the room and finds its own level, so even a wide Ashby Fields kitchen extension is poured in a day and ends up flat and dense. Shrinkage is low, so it can run across a big room with only a few joints. You can have it made with calcium sulphate or with cement; for the first of those, see calcium sulphate flow screed in Daventry.
On Southbrook and Ashby Fields, typical projects are extensions, conservatory conversions and open plan kitchens. Converting a conservatory into a proper room usually means a new insulated floor, and a pumped screed can bring it level with the house in one visit. An open plan kitchen that runs from the original room into an extension is another good fit, because the whole floor can be poured to one level.
Thickness follows whatever the screed is sitting on. Laid over insulation in a house, the minimum is roughly 35mm. If heating pipes are included, at least 25mm must cover them, for a total of about 45 to 50mm. SR1 or SR2 regularity is readily achievable, so LVT and large tiles can go down with little further work.
You can usually cross the room a day or two after pouring, 24 to 48 hours as a rule, though the screed is still far from dry. Reckon on one day per millimetre up to 40mm and longer past that, and our drying times guide has tips on helping it along in a new Daventry extension.
Getting a screed pump to Daventry homes and flats
A liquid screed pour needs a mixer and pump outside and a hose into the room. The key question is where they stand. A driveway or a quiet road outside the house is ideal. Parking bays, shared drives and narrow footpaths all affect the hose route, so describe them, or send photos, when asking for a price.
Upper floors and flats are reachable by hose, provided there is a safe route. On a block of apartments, pouring each floor in a single visit keeps the build programme moving. A garden room at the end of a long plot can also be reached, although the hose length and route need planning. Before the pour, openings are sealed and the edge strip and membrane checked, so the screed stays where it should.
Some jobs are better done by hand. A tiny cloakroom, a floor with no hose route, or a room that must take load within a day or two may suit hand-laid sand and cement in Daventry better.
