Levelling shop floors at Rushden Lakes and Crown Park
Rushden Lakes is the shopping and leisure complex off the A45 that opened in 2017 on the former Skew Bridge ski slope site. With Crown Park retail park, it forms the town's main retail offer. When a unit changes hands or is refitted, the old floor finish comes up and what lies beneath is often not ready for the new one.
LVT and sheet vinyl are thin enough to show every hollow and ridge beneath them. BS 8204 measures flatness with a 2m straightedge, and the gap allowed is 3mm for SR1, 5mm for SR2 and 10mm for SR3. SR1 is the class many thin sheet finishes demand, and levelling compound is how a shop floor is brought to it.
The work runs in order. The old adhesive and loose material are removed, the base is repaired where needed, the right primer goes on for the base type, and the compound is poured, typically from about 2mm to around 10mm. Fast drying products mean the flooring contractor can often follow on quickly, which matters when a shop has an opening date.
Rushden's industrial units lie on an estate outside the town, and their floors take heavier screeds and repair work. For damaged screed on those sites, see our screed repairs service. Levelling is laid once the base below it is sound, never as a cover for a floor that is breaking up. Where a unit needs work outside trading hours, tell us the dates when you ask for a price, so products and drying times can be chosen to suit.
Flat floors for new flooring in Rushden homes
Homes built from 2000 to 2014 make up 16% of Rushden. Houses from the 2000s often have a modern slab that can take a thin quick drying screed or latex levelling when owners replace flooring. The floor is sound; it just is not flat enough for the new finish. Old tile adhesive, ridges from previous flooring and small hollows are the usual culprits, and they show through LVT within weeks if left.
Mid-century semis tend to need levelling too, often where a new extension slab meets the original floor and leaves a step or a slope. A layer of compound across both lets one run of flooring cross the threshold.
Thin work of a few millimetres can use latex screed for thin levelling. Deeper problems need a different answer: if the floor is loose, hollow, damp or needs more than about 10mm across a wide area, compound poured deep can crack and debond, and a new screed is the right fix. We will tell you which you need. The same service is available in neighbouring towns, including floor levelling in Raunds.
