Liquid floors for Tadley's post-war extensions
Single storey rear extensions on semis and detached houses from the 1950s to the 1980s are among the most typical building jobs in Tadley. The new room needs a floor that lines up exactly with the old one, and liquid screed is well suited to that. Pumped onto the insulation, it levels itself and barely shrinks while setting, so a big open-plan kitchen can be done in one day and needs much less jointing than a hand-laid floor.
The depth is thinner than traditional screed. In a house the floating layer begins at about 35mm (around 40mm on commercial floors), which keeps more of the height free for insulation. Where the new floor runs through into the old house, we set levels so there is no step at the opening once the floor finishes are laid.
Flatness is the other gain. SR1 or SR2 is well within its reach, which helps with the big tiles and LVT that tend to go into a new kitchen. The builder rarely loses long, as trades can usually walk on it again after 24 to 48 hours.
Getting it dry for floor coverings is slower, as a rough rule about a day per mm through the first 40mm and longer after. What speeds that up is covered in our screed drying guide. The liquid itself may be calcium sulphate or a cement based mix, picked for the room and the finish going on it.
Pump access on Tadley drives and streets
Every liquid pour starts outside. The mixer and pump need to park within a hose run of the room, and with no railway into town everything arrives by road along routes such as the A340. A detached Tadley house with its own drive rarely makes this difficult. Semis and terraces on Tadley's post-war streets can mean taking the hose along a side path or in through the front, with floors and doorways covered along its route.
Newer homes are a small part of the town, with only 9% of Tadley's homes built since 2000, so most pours join onto an existing house rather than filling an empty new plot. That makes the height of the old floor the key measurement, and we take it before quoting.
Where a liquid screed covers wet underfloor heating, the pipe cover and heat-up rules are on our underfloor heating screed page for Tadley. Our pumps and machines are not available to hire; the screed pumping page shows how a pour is set up. The same liquid screed service is available in Basingstoke.
