Liquid screed for Fleet extensions and open plan refits
The bigger the floor, the more a pumped screed makes sense. Fleet's larger detached houses often have ground floors being opened into one kitchen, dining and family space, sometimes with an extension on the back. A liquid screed covers that area in one pour, with no day joints between rooms, and flows out to SR1 or SR2 flatness without hand trowelling. Because it hardly shrinks, it needs far fewer joints than sand and cement would across a Fleet ground floor of that size.
Depth is the next advantage. Liquid needs only about 35mm floated on insulation in a house, against 65mm of sand and cement. On a refit where a new floor must meet existing thresholds, that saved height can go into insulation instead.
Heating is where it earns its keep. With nothing but screed in contact with the pipes and no voids around them, the floor warms up faster and runs more efficiently. For the pipe cover and commissioning details, see screed over underfloor heating in Fleet.
New build at Hartland Village, Edenbrook and Crookham Park brings apartments and houses where heated screeds are commonly in the specification. Liquid screeds come in calcium sulphate and cement based types; the first is often named by grade on a new build specification, and our page on calcium sulphate grades deals with that. Liquid against sand and cement lays the two side by side.
Pump access on Fleet driveways and new build sites
On most detached plots, the mixer and pump stand on the driveway and the hose runs a short distance to the room. On a new build site, the setup follows the site manager's rules on deliveries and standing areas, so we agree the slot in advance. Where the truck has to stand on a road, let us know about restrictions when you ask for a price.
The hose can follow a hallway or climb stairs, so upper floors and apartments are within reach, provided the route is clear and protected.
On arrival we look for edge strip round each wall, taped joints in the membrane laid over the insulation, and dams across doorways so the screed does not wander. If you need the insulation and membrane supplied as well, our insulation and membranes team can do that as part of the same job.
Once the pour is done, keep the doors shut for a day or two. You can walk on it carefully from 24 to 48 hours, yet it goes on drying for weeks, the first 40mm alone taking around 40 days. With underfloor heating, the heating can help drying once the screed is old enough, following the maker's schedule rather than guesswork.
