Which floor screed suits which Fleet home
Census 2021 put the population of the Fleet built-up area at 37,800. The town grew after the railway opened in 1840, then spread through Ancells Farm, Zebon Copse and Elvetham Heath, and more recently through Crookham Park, Edenbrook and Hartland Village. Each stage leaves floors with different needs.
The typical Fleet project is a large detached house from the 1970s onwards being extended, opened up into one kitchen and living space, or given a whole new ground floor with underfloor heating. A pumped liquid screed over new heating gives a thin, even floor on work like that. How much cover goes over the pipes, and when the heating can go on, is covered on our Fleet underfloor heating screed page.
Older homes near Fleet Pond and in the Blue Triangle, the area that grew when excursions to the pond drew wealthier settlers, can need more preparation before any new floor goes down. If the old floor near the pond has to come up and be rebuilt, or the room is small and awkward, sand and cement laid by hand tends to suit it better.
New build at Hartland Village, Edenbrook and Crookham Park brings apartments and houses where acoustic and heated screeds are commonly part of the specification. Some drawings for Hartland Village, Edenbrook or Crookham Park specify calcium sulphate by grade; what that means for sanding and testing is on the Fleet anhydrite flow screed page.
And where a Fleet floor is solid yet short of the flatness its new finish needs, a coat of levelling compound may be enough.

Access, timing and business parks around Fleet
We cover all of Fleet, including Church Crookham and Pondtail. Postcodes here include GU51 and GU52.
Access is usually simpler on a detached plot with a driveway, where the mixer and pump sit close to the house and the hose runs straight in. On a new build site, deliveries run to the site manager's plan, so we agree a slot and a standing area in advance. Near the town centre or on narrower roads, tell us about parking when you ask for a price.
Timing a pour is the other practical question. Before we pour, the house has to be weathertight and the wet plaster finished, and the installer must have pressure tested any heating pipes. After the pour comes drying, and how long that takes rests on how thick the screed is and what it is made of. On a whole ground floor refit, that drying window is often the longest single stage, so fix the pour date before booking the kitchen fitter or tiler.
Fleet also has several business parks, mainly occupied by information technology firms, and its eastern side takes in Hartland Park and part of Cody Technology Park. Office refurbishments on sites like these usually start with floor levelling ahead of new finishes, and some need repair or a new screed when a tenant changes. For that kind of work, see our commercial screeding.
