Crowthorne's houses and the screed each one suits
Crowthorne was a hamlet in Sandhurst parish until Wellington College arrived in 1859 and Broadmoor Hospital in 1863. Most of what stands today was built after the war, and Census 2021 recorded 15,196 people living in the Crowthorne built-up area.
Detached houses make up 52% of the homes. Generous plots leave space to extend, and a large rear extension that opens into the existing kitchen creates exactly the kind of wide, open floor where liquid screed for Crowthorne extensions works well. When the whole ground floor is being heated, the pipes need the right cover and a careful heat-up, which our page on underfloor heating screed explains.
Edgcumbe Park is different. Its mid-century houses often need their original floors assessed before any remodelling starts, because a floor of that age may be sound, uneven or failing. If it turns out solid but wavy, a thin pour of levelling compound will flatten it. If it has cracked or its damp protection has gone, digging it out and relaying in sand and cement by hand is the better route, and the same hand method is the one for cramped rooms, wet rooms and garages.
At Buckler's Park, on the former Transport Research Laboratory land off Nine Mile Ride, outline permission allows up to 1,000 homes beside a new country park. Homes and apartments there are going up in phases, with screed laid over new insulated slabs, and a specification there may call for a calcium sulphate grade.

Planning a Crowthorne pour around the build
A screed is booked in the middle of a project, and the trades before it decide the date. Before we come, the shell needs closing in, windows and outside doors fitted and the wet plaster finished, otherwise the new floor can get soaked or knocked about. Where there is underfloor heating, your heating engineer must lay and pressure test the pipes first. Only then can we fix the pour.
After the pour comes drying time, and this is where extension programmes slip. You can cross a liquid floor after 24 to 48 hours, yet tiles or wood have to wait a good deal longer while it dries. Book the flooring fitter against the drying time, not the pour date.
Access on a detached plot is usually simple. A driveway gives the mixer and pump a place to stand and the hose a short run through the side or rear of the house. Longer drives, gates and gravel are all workable, but mention them when you ask for a price so the hose length is right on the day. On a phased site such as Buckler's Park, the contractor's access rules and delivery slots set the timing instead.
