Buckler's Park plots and the CA grade on the drawing
You buy calcium sulphate screed by its grade. Its code has two halves: the number after C gives compressive strength, the number after F flexural strength, each in N/mm2. For rooms in a house that see little foot traffic, CA-C20-F4 is enough. Step up to CA-C25-F5 for the general run of houses, flats and offices, and to CA-C30-F6 where a floor takes a beating. When a Buckler's Park plot or any other new build specification names a grade, that is the grade we pour.
Next to these are alpha hemihydrate products, used when a floor must dry sooner or the build-up leaves little depth, and each follows its own product data sheet, not a blanket rule.
Its very low shrinkage is what makes it a good fit for new build plots. It can be poured in large bays with few joints, so open ground floors and apartment living spaces need fewer joints than a cement screed. Where joints are still needed, say across a doorway or at the edge of a heating zone, we set out bays and joints before pouring, and our own team builds the layers beneath.
If you are building out a phase, send the specification and the plot drawings together. For background on calcium sulphate as a material, read what anhydrite screed is. If the heating layout is still being designed, underfloor heating screed in Crowthorne covers the cover depths and heat-up.
Sanding, testing and priming anhydrite in Crowthorne
Finishing a calcium sulphate floor has three steps that cement screeds do not all share. First, laitance. As it cures, a weak, powdery film forms on the surface, and we sand that away after drying. Second, priming, with a primer suited to calcium sulphate, since it has to match the base the adhesive bonds to.
Third, the moisture test. A lot of flooring brands accept less damp in an anhydrite base than in a cement one, so a figure that passes on cement may still fail here. Only a hygrometer test settles it. Once it is about 7 days old, the underfloor heating can normally help dry it out, which keeps a phased build like Buckler's Park moving.
It is not a screed for wet areas. Shower rooms, wet rooms and any floor that could be exposed to water need a cement based flowing screed instead, which pumps and levels the same way. We mark those rooms from the drawings. Our screed pumping service covers both. For plots nearby, we also pour anhydrite flow screed in Camberley.
