Liquid screed for Andover's larger floors and newer estates
Large, open floors are where pumping pays off. It levels itself, flows into corners and leaves a dense surface with low shrinkage and far fewer joints than a hand-laid floor, so one crew can cover a whole ground floor in a day.
Andover has plenty of floors like that. Detached houses make up a large share of the town, and they tend to produce bigger extension and garage conversion projects with wide areas to cover. Homes built since 2015 make up 16% of the stock, and a new ground floor over insulation is a natural fit for a floating liquid screed.
On newer estates such as Augusta Park and Picket Twenty, there is another use. When floor finishes are being replaced, a thin liquid screed can go over a new heating layer without raising the floor too far. How much screed goes over the pipes, and how to bring the heating up, is on our Andover page for heated floor screeds.
Thickness is set by what lies beneath. A house floor floated on insulation starts from around 35mm, and a commercial one from 40mm. Heating pipes want 25mm or more above them, which brings the whole floor to 45 to 50mm. The surface comes up to SR1 or SR2 without a struggle, and either class is flat enough to take engineered wood, LVT or tiles.
The binder in the mix is either calcium sulphate or cement. For what a specified calcium sulphate grade means in practice, see anhydrite flow screed.
Access, drying and pricing for liquid screed in Andover
A liquid screed is mixed off site and pumped in through a hose, so what matters on the day is where the truck and pump can park. Detached houses with drives are usually simple. If you live on a terrace, or the hose has a long way to go to a rear extension, let us know about parking and the way through at the quote stage so the route is worked out in advance.
Before the pour, the room must be weathertight, with insulation and membrane laid, the edge strip fitted and any pipes tested. Within a couple of days people can walk across it, but drying takes something near a day a millimetre until the depth reaches 40mm, and slows once it is deeper. How to bring that forward is covered in our article on screed drying.
A pumped liquid floor costs £24 to £31 per square metre on published UK prices for 2026. Smaller areas cost more per metre because the pump carries a fixed cost: pump hire on its own runs at £300 to £600 per day. We do not hire out pumps; we supply, pump and finish the screed as one job, and our screeding cost guide sets out what else affects the price.
