From Andover's overspill terraces to Picket Twenty
Census 2021 recorded 48,484 people in the Andover built-up area. Most of the town's homes are post-war, with 29% built between 1973 and 1999 alone and far fewer from before 1919.
The terraces and semis from the overspill decades are where a lot of renovation now happens. Some are being extended, others having tired ground floors replaced. Either way the new floor has to match the old slab level, and the original floors usually lack insulation, so the build-up has to allow for both. In a small room, or where the floor must be dug out, hand-laid sand and cement screed is often the practical choice; for a wide extension, pumped liquid screed is quicker and flatter.
On newer estates such as Augusta Park and Picket Twenty, replacing floor finishes can be a chance to add heating. A thin liquid screed keeps the floor height down, and our underfloor heating screed page explains the depths involved.
Detached houses are a large share of Andover's homes, and they tend to produce bigger extensions and garage conversions, with larger floor areas to screed in one go.
A solid floor that is merely uneven can often be put right with self levelling compound alone. Postcodes here include SP10 and SP11, and we cover the whole town, including Bulbery, Little Ann, Upper Enham and East Anton.

Planning a pour on an Andover build
The screed sits between the shell and the finishes, so it has to be timed around the trades on either side. On an Andover extension our date comes once the shell is sealed against rain, the plastering is done and any underfloor heating pipes have passed their pressure test. Then comes a drying period before any flooring, longer or shorter depending on the mix and how thick it is. Book early, then fix the date when the roof and windows are in.
Pumping means the truck has to park close enough for our hose to get to the room. Where a detached house has a drive, that is easy; for a terrace where cars park on the road, mention any restrictions and the way in when you ask us to quote.
Andover also has a large stock of commercial floor space. Walworth Business Park, off Livingstone Road with access to the A303, has more than 165,000 sq ft of industrial and warehouse space. Portway West and Portway East business parks add further units, and Andover Business Park occupies the former RAF Andover site. Warehouse slabs like these can need grinding, repairs or high strength toppings, which our commercial screeding service covers.
