Screeding Contractors in Winchester

Most Winchester floor jobs fall into one of two camps. In the older districts it tends to mean breaking out a worn ground floor and relaying it; out in the suburbs it is more likely to be a new floor for an extension. K & B Screeding covers both with liquid, sand and cement and heated screeds, levels floors ready for new finishes and pours specified calcium sulphate. The city lies about 43.5 miles from our Slough base, to the south-west, and you have a written price before any work begins.

From St Cross to Harestock: choosing a Winchester screed

Census 2021 put the population of the Winchester built-up area at 48,486, and the housing spans almost every era. The largest share, 30%, went up between 1945 and 1972, yet a place that started life as the Roman town of Venta Belgarum still has whole districts of period houses.

Hyde, Fulflood and St Cross are where those period houses sit. A ground floor there may have to come out completely and be rebuilt over new insulation and a damp proof membrane, and where the rooms are small and the doorways original, finishing with sand and cement laid by hand is normally the sensible route. For a listed house or one in a conservation setting, settle the finished levels and thresholds before anything is broken out.

Beyond them is a ring of suburbs, Stanmore, Weeke, Harestock, Badger Farm and Oliver's Battery among them, and the post-war semis and terraces there lend themselves to extensions. Put pipes in the new floor and it will normally get a flowing screed over the heating, poured in a day and flat enough to tile.

On newer flats and housing plots, the drawings often already name a calcium sulphate grade. What that grade actually means is set out on our Winchester anhydrite screed page.

Not every Winchester floor needs replacing, though. If yours is solid but bumpy, a skim of levelling compound under the new flooring normally fixes it faster and for less than a new screed. Postcodes here include SO22, SO23 and SO21.

Access in central Winchester and timing the pour

Alfred the Great's street grid still shapes the city centre, and finding somewhere for a mixer and pump outside a house in those older streets takes planning. In your enquiry, mention residents' parking, any loading restrictions and shared passageways; we then work out where the kit will stand and how long the hose run will be. Further out, a driveway usually settles it, and the whole city is covered, Fairdown, Northfields and Abbotts Barton included.

The calendar needs the same attention. We pour once the building is sealed against the weather and the plasterers have finished their wet work, and once any heating pipes have passed their pressure test. The floor then has to dry before the flooring layer comes in, and how long that takes depends on its depth and what it is made of. In a listed building there is one more thing to settle first, because the agreed levels can change door heights and joinery.

Business premises sit in a category of their own. Winnall, near junction 9 of the M3, is the city's main industrial area, and its business parks contain units from the 1980s and 1990s, the kind of buildings where floor repairs and resurfacing tend to come up. Those jobs go through our commercial floor screeding service.

FAQs

Screeding in Winchester: your questions

What does screeding a floor in Winchester cost per m²?

Both figures in the 2026 UK published rates are per square metre: £18 to £25 if it is sand and cement, £24 to £31 if it is liquid screed. Where your floor lands in that range depends on the area, the depth, how easy the street is to work from, and whether we are also laying insulation and membranes for you. Once we have the details, a fixed price arrives in writing within 24 hours and is agreed before work begins.

Can you screed a floor in a listed Winchester house?

Yes, but the finished level and thresholds should be agreed with your conservation officer or architect before work starts. Raising a floor to fit insulation can affect door heights, skirting and joinery. We work to the levels you have agreed and can suggest build-ups that keep the new floor as shallow as practical.

Which Winchester floor needs relaying and which just needs levelling?

A floor that is hollow, crumbling, damp or missing a membrane has to be dug out and relaid. One that is sound and dry but simply uneven normally just needs a few millimetres of levelling compound. We look at the floor before we price it and tell you straight which of the two jobs you are facing.
