Where pumped liquid screed fits Tidworth homes
A hose runs from the mixer outside to the room, and the screed is pumped along it. It settles to its own level, so a large floor goes down in one continuous pour rather than in hand-laid bays. That makes it a sensible choice for an extension that opens a kitchen, dining and family space across the back of a post-war semi or terrace, the homes owners in Tidworth tend to extend.
It also gives a very flat result. Reaching SR1 or SR2 is straightforward with it, so under a 2m straightedge the gap stays within 3mm or 5mm. A floor like that gives engineered boards, LVT and big tiles a true base. Low shrinkage means few joints, even across a long room.
How deep it goes is set by what lies beneath. On insulation in a house, the minimum is about 35mm. Pipes for underfloor heating need 25mm or more of screed on top, taking the overall depth to around 45 to 50mm. Liquid screeds come as calcium sulphate or cement based mixes, and the deciding question is usually whether that floor could ever get wet.
It works for flats too. Flats make up 20% of Tidworth's homes, and an apartment floor is usually a single open area where a pumped screed can be laid quickly. To weigh the two materials against each other, read liquid or sand and cement: which to pick.
Pump access and drying on Tidworth streets
On the day, our mixer and pump set up on the road or your drive, with the hose taking the screed indoors. A drive or space right outside makes the setup simple. If the house sits on a shared drive or a narrow road where parking is limited, tell us when you ask for a price so we can plan where the pump stands and how far the hose has to run.
Upper floors and flats can be reached as long as there is a clear route for the hose up a stairwell or through a window. There is more on how that is arranged on our screed pumping page.
Light foot traffic is normally fine 24 to 48 hours after pouring. Getting dry enough for flooring is a much longer wait. Allow around one day for every millimetre up to 40mm, then more for each millimetre after, and expect ventilation and warmth to change the pace a lot. Our drying times guide covers how to plan around it. For the same service a short way east, see liquid screed in Andover.
