Where liquid screed fits in Salisbury
In Salisbury, 16% of homes date from 2000 or later, and newer houses at Longhedge and Old Sarum come with underfloor heating. A flowing screed fills right round the pipes without leaving gaps, which is why it suits them; cover depth is dealt with on the heated screed page for the city.
Suburban extensions are the next fit. Inter-war and post-war semis in the outer suburbs are regularly extended, and a new room opening into the kitchen needs a floor that stays flat over a wide area. Pumped screed levels itself, needs far less jointing than a hand-laid floor and takes foot traffic within a couple of days.
Then there is depth. Floating on insulation in a house, liquid begins at about 35mm, where sand and cement needs 65mm, and when an extension has to meet an existing floor that thinner floor can save digging. It reaches SR1 or SR2 without much difficulty, so tiles, LVT and engineered wood need less preparation.
Liquid screed can be made with calcium sulphate or with cement, and the cement kind is the one for spaces that might get wet. Describe the room and its finish, and we will say which.
UK price figures for 2026 put liquid screed at £24 to £31 per m². Bishopdown, Hampton Park, Churchfields and every other part of the city are covered on the same terms. For a job about seven miles away, see pumped screed in Amesbury.
Pumping to Salisbury flats and tight central streets
Flats are 22% of homes in Salisbury, and the pump can reach the higher ones. The hose goes up a stairwell or in through a window, as long as the route is clear and the managing agent has said yes to access, with floors and stairs protected on the way.
Down at the street, the mixer and pump have to park within reach of the hose. Restricted parking or a narrow frontage takes planning, so mention permits, loading rules or a passage we would need to use when you send the details, and the day will be organised around them. If vehicles cannot stop outside at all, a longer hose run from a loading point nearby may work, and we check that before confirming a date.
Walking and drying are not the same thing. Foot traffic is fine a day or two after the pour, but flooring has to wait much longer. Each millimetre up to 40mm takes about a day to dry, and anything deeper dries more slowly; the guide to screed drying explains how the floor is tested before anything is fitted.
