Liquid screed for Cupernham and Halterworth extensions
The post-war and late twentieth century terraces and semis in areas such as Cupernham and Halterworth are typical candidates for a single storey rear extension. That kind of room is where liquid screed earns its place. It comes straight off the mixer, travels along a hose and spreads over the insulation, finding its own level. It hardly shrinks while setting, so a big kitchen-diner can be done in one day and needs far fewer joints than the same room screeded by hand.
Depth comes first. In a house, a floating liquid floor begins at about 35mm thick; on commercial jobs the starting point is about 40mm. Where the new floor meets the old slab, we set the levels so the finished surface runs through the opening without a step, allowing for the thickness of the floor covering on each side.
Builders also pick it for how flat it finishes. It will readily reach SR1 or SR2 for surface regularity, which helps when large format tiles or LVT are going on top, with little extra work. Usually it can be walked on 24 to 48 hours later, which means the rest of the build loses very little time.
Drying still takes a while. Think of a day for each mm through the first 40mm, with the rate slowing on deeper floors. Anyone lining up a Romsey kitchen fitter behind the pour can check our screed drying times explained for ways to shorten the gap. We use calcium sulphate or cement based liquid screed, picking between them for the room and its finish.
Getting the pump to a Romsey room
The first job for any liquid pour is finding a spot to park the mixer and pump. They need to be within a hose run of the room, and the hose then travels through the house or along the side of it. Where the house has its own drive, that part is straightforward. In a terrace, the hose may need to pass through the front room, so we protect floors and doorways on the way.
Flats of all kinds make up 17% of Romsey's homes. Upstairs flats are pumped via the stairwell or a window, with the hose route and parking usually agreed with the building manager well before the day.
Near the Market Place, which has been pedestrianised since 2019, vehicle access is the first thing to settle. Tell us about restrictions and loading when you ask for a price.
Our pumps and machines are not for hire, but the screed pumping page shows how the kit is set up on site. Planning a heated room? The Romsey heated floor screed page sets out how much cover the pipes need.
