Self Levelling Screed and Floor Levelling in Weybridge

We level floors in Weybridge with self levelling compound before LVT, vinyl, large tiles, engineered wood and other finishes. Brooklands is where Weybridge levelling gets serious. The former track now carries Sony and Procter & Gamble corporate campuses, Mercedes-Benz World and Brooklands Museum, and showrooms, offices and display halls like these need flat, durable floors, often ground or levelled before resin or tile finishes. Homes and flats need the same flatness at a smaller scale.

Flat floors for Brooklands showrooms and offices

Commercial finishes are unforgiving. Under a 2m straightedge, BS 8204 sets SR1 at 3mm of deviation, SR2 at 5mm and SR3 at 10mm. SR1 is the class many thin sheet finishes demand, and large showroom tiles or resin coatings show every ridge.

Work on this kind of floor follows a fixed order. Old coverings, adhesive and weak surface layers are removed first, often by grinding, which our concrete floor grinding service covers. Priming follows, using a product that suits the base, as concrete, calcium sulphate and sand and cement are each primed in their own way. The compound goes down last, usually from about 2mm up to around 10mm.

We do not lay resin, but we prepare and level the base that a resin contractor or tiler works on. In a display hall or office, fast drying compounds keep downtime short, and areas can be handed back zone by zone, so a showroom or office can keep part of its space open while the rest is being prepared and levelled.

A showroom or office floor at Brooklands that has drifted further from level than compound can safely deal with needs rescreeding, which is work for our commercial screeding crew. Deep compound pours over a failing base can crack and debond, which costs more to put right than doing the screed first.

Levelling Weybridge flats and extension joins

Homes need levelling for different reasons. In a flat being refitted, the existing screed may be sound but uneven. Terraced houses make up 19% of Weybridge homes, and in older terraces and flats the floor often needs a thin levelling coat before new LVT or tiles.

Extensions are the other case. Where a new floor meets the original house, the join rarely lines up perfectly, and a small lip shows through long boards. Feathering compound across the join and the old floor gives one surface. Semi-detached houses are 17% of the town's homes, and an extended semi is a typical place for that join.

Old floors in Oatlands houses are a different matter. If the floor has no membrane and is damp or breaking up, compound is not the fix. It needs digging out and relaying with sand and cement for older floors.

If you only need a few millimetres, a skim of latex screed can do it. The same service is available about 1.5 miles away on our Addlestone floor levelling page.

FAQs

Floor Levelling in Weybridge: your questions

What does SR1 mean for a floor?

BS 8204 sorts floors into surface regularity classes, and SR1 is the strictest of the three: under a 2m straightedge, no gap may exceed 3mm. SR2 lets that reach 5mm and SR3 10mm. Many thin sheet finishes and large format tiles need SR1, so a Weybridge office or showroom floor is often levelled to that standard before the finish goes down.

Can you prepare a floor for resin without laying the resin?

Yes. We do not lay resin, but we grind, repair, prime and level the base so a resin contractor can apply their system. The base must be flat, sound and dry, and the primer must suit both the substrate and the coating. Coordinating the handover dates avoids a second visit.

When does a floor need a new screed instead of levelling compound?

When it is out by more than about 10mm, when the old screed is loose or hollow, or when the floor is damp with no membrane. Compound laid too deep or over a failing base can crack and debond. Any of those and we would tell you plainly to rescreed instead.
