Unit refits from Kingswey to Woking Business Park
When a tenant changes, the floor is usually the first thing to show its age. Old carpet tile adhesive, patched screed and a dip where a partition once stood all telegraph through new LVT or sheet vinyl. Levelling compound fixes that quickly, so the fit out can carry on.
Kingswey Business Park, split into Optimum Park and Genesis Park, and Woking Business Park hold trade, distribution, research and industrial units. Where a unit there is refitted with new floor coverings, levelling compound gives the thin, flat surface they need. The warehouse and workshop floors themselves are a different job, for concrete repair, grinding or a high strength screed.
The target is usually set as a flatness class. Measured with a 2m straightedge, BS 8204 allows a gap of 3mm in class SR1, 5mm in SR2 and 10mm in SR3. Thin sheet finishes often ask for SR1. We survey the floor with a straightedge first, so the compound goes where it is needed.
Compound is normally poured somewhere in the range of roughly 2mm to 10mm, and certain products can go deeper. Each base needs the right primer: a different one for a power floated slab, a sand and cement screed or a sanded calcium sulphate floor. Where old adhesive or contaminated concrete needs removing first, concrete floor grinding is the preparation step. For a thin smoothing coat only, see our latex screed service.
When a Woking floor needs a new screed instead
Levelling compound tops off a sound floor; it cannot rescue one that has failed. Poured deep to fill a large dip or to bury a loose screed, it can crack and debond, and the new flooring goes with it. So the first job is a survey: tap the floor for hollow areas, check for cracks that are still moving, and measure how far it is out of level.
If the base is sound and the variation is within about 10mm, levelling is quick and keeps the programme moving. Quick drying products mean a shop or office refit is not held up waiting.
If the screed is loose, crumbling or badly out, it is better in the end to replace it. In a post-war house that often means relaying with a hand-laid sand and cement screed. Where the damage is limited to a patch or two, our screed repair team can sometimes cut it out and make good before any compound is poured.
Joins between an existing house and a new extension are a common case in Woking homes, where two floors of different ages meet. A thin compound across the joint gives the flooring one continuous, flat surface.
