Kitchen extensions in Hollington and Ore
The post-war and later homes in Hollington and Ore tend to be where extensions and kitchen refits happen. An extension usually means a bigger, more open floor than the original rooms, and that is the kind of floor liquid screed handles well. One visit is enough for a wide floor, low shrinkage keeps the number of joints down, and you can normally walk on it once 24 to 48 hours have passed.
Flatness is one of its strengths. Since it finds its own level, a 2m straightedge should show SR1 or SR2 without much effort, and that is flat enough for most tiles, LVT and engineered wood.
Depth depends on what lies below. Laid floating on insulation, a house floor in liquid screed can start at around 35mm, and a commercial one at around 40mm. Where wet heating pipes sit in it, they want 25mm or more on top, for a total of 45 to 50mm. The new floor must also meet the existing house at the same height, so we measure before quoting.
Liquid screeds come in two broad kinds: calcium sulphate, for dry rooms, and cement based, for floors that may get wet. If your specification names a grade, read our Hastings anhydrite flow screed page. On published 2026 figures, liquid screed costs £24 to £31 a square metre, and hiring a pump on its own runs £300 to £600 a day. We do not hire out pumps or machines: we bring the pump and lay the screed ourselves.
Pumping screed up Hastings hills and stairs
Old houses on steep ground are common in Hastings, and a sloping plot can leave the room well above or below the road. A pumped screed copes with that better than barrows of sand and cement, because the hose can run through the house, up a stair or across a garden. We still need to know the route, the gradient and where the truck and pump can park, including any permits.
For flats on upper floors, the hose goes up the communal stair or, where the building allows, through a window. Tell us the floor, the stair width and any rules the building has about access times.
Drying needs planning too. Allow around one day for each millimetre up to 40mm, and longer beyond that, so a floor you can cross after two days may still be weeks away from taking moisture sensitive flooring. For the two main screed types side by side, including their timings, see our liquid versus traditional screed comparison. Nearby Bexhill-on-Sea has its own liquid screed page.
