Warehouse and office slabs around Towcester Road
Big distribution floors are poured in bays, and over time the edges of those bays can stand proud of each other. Pallet trucks feel every lip. Before new racking or a coating by a specialist goes in, the slab is usually ground: diamond heads take the high edges down, along with trowel ridges and patches where old repairs sit above the surrounding floor.
Grinding also removes what has built up on top. Laitance on a slab is weak and dusty, and coatings will not hold to it. Old paint along walkways and thin sealers come off the same way. The result is open, firm concrete with enough texture for a primer to grip.
At Lucas Bridge Business Park the work is smaller in scale. When carpet tiles are lifted from an office or business unit, the adhesive left across the floor has to go before latex screed for Towcester floors or levelling compound. Where the floor is a screed rather than a slab, we check its depth first, because every pass eats into the thickness it was designed to have.
We are the contractor, not a supplier. We do not hire or sell grinders or diamond tooling, and we do not lay resin or polished concrete. For very large areas or thick coatings, shot blasting or scarifying may be faster, and our floor preparation service covers those. For damaged slabs, start with concrete floor repair.
Extension joins and garages in Towcester houses
Detached houses are 38% of Towcester's homes. When a house here is extended, the new slab rarely finishes at precisely the height of the original floor, so there is often a ridge or a small step at the join. Grinding the high side down by a few millimetres can let a single floor finish run straight through.
Garages being turned into rooms usually need their slabs cleaned before the new build-up. Oil, paint and dust are ground away so the membrane and screed sit on sound concrete; our guide to garage conversion floors explains the layers.
Age is no protection: even a new home at Towcester Grange would have adhesive residue on its floor if glued flooring were ever lifted. Grinding it off leaves a surface ready for primer.
What grinding cannot do is fix a floor that falls across the room or dips in the middle. It removes material only where the heads touch. For that kind of floor we grind the bumps and then level, building up the low areas with levelling compound, or laying a new screed if the error is large.
Dust control is part of every job. The fine dust from grinding concrete, screed or tiles carries silica, which is harmful to breathe. Our grinders work only with dust extraction, and we seal off adjoining rooms before starting.
