Liquid screed for Tring kitchen extensions
A kitchen extension on a semi or detached house has one fixed point: the level of the floor it joins. Liquid screed makes that easier to hit. It is poured to a laser-set height and levels itself across the room, so a long open-plan space finishes flat with no step at the old back wall. Lay a 2m straightedge on the result and it will normally pass SR1, or SR2 at worst.
Depth is the next advantage. Floated over boards in a home, the pumped layer can be as little as about 35mm; the hand-tamped equivalent needs about 65mm. That margin can go into thicker insulation below, which keeps the new floor warm without raising it.
It also covers ground quickly. A whole extension, or a ground floor being opened up at the same time, can be poured in a single visit. Low shrinkage means few joints, so larger rooms need little more than joints at doorways.
Detached houses make up 25% of Tring's homes, and their larger ground floors are where a pumped screed saves the most time over a hand-laid one laid in batches.
A pumped floor can be gypsum based (calcium sulphate) or cement based; a dry lounge and a utility with a washing machine would get different answers. A CA code on your architect's drawing means the first kind, covered on our Tring anhydrite page. For the case either way, read liquid versus traditional screed.
Pump access on Tring streets and driveways
The pump works from the road or the drive, and its hose runs through the house to the room. A driveway makes that simple. Where a house fronts the road with no off-street space, the pump may have to park on the street for the pour, so mention any restrictions or narrow access when you ask for a quote. A hose can pass along a hallway, through a side gate or up a stair, as long as the route is clear and protected.
Three things must be finished ahead of us: perimeter strip lining each wall, taped seams on the sheet that covers the insulation, and a stop across every doorway. We walk the room before the hose is filled, since one open seam lets liquid creep under the boards.
Being able to cross it after a day or two does not mean it is dry; only a moisture reading tells the flooring fitter when to come. Keep heavy loads and stacked materials off the new floor for longer than the first day or two. The same service is available as liquid screed in Berkhamsted and liquid screed in Aylesbury.
