Concrete Floor Grinding in Frimley

Our own team diamond grinds concrete and screed in Frimley to take off high spots, ridges between bays, laitance, old adhesive and floor paint, so the next layer bonds to a clean, sound surface. Refitting offices at Frimley Business Park or in buildings off Lyon Way usually need floor preparation over the existing slab, and grinding is often the first part of it. We prepare floors only: resin, polished concrete and machine hire are not part of what we offer.

Grinding office slabs at Frimley Business Park

When an office floor is stripped for a refit, the slab underneath tells the story of every fit-out before it. There may be carpet tile tackifier, patches of vinyl glue in old kitchens and washrooms, paint lines, and ridges where the original slab was cast in bays. A raised access floor, new carpet tiles or sheet vinyl all need something cleaner and flatter.

Diamond grinding is how that surface is opened up. Rotating heads set with diamonds cut away thin layers of the slab, taking contamination and the weak surface skin with them. Bay joints that have curled or lipped are ground back so the floor runs on smoothly.

Dust has to be controlled carefully in a building that may be partly occupied. Concrete contains silica, and grinding it creates respirable crystalline silica dust that is harmful to breathe. We grind only with extraction attached to the cutting head, and we agree with the facilities team which areas are sealed off, how long each zone takes and where the extraction unit stands.

Grinding handles local high spots; it does not correct a slab that falls across a whole floor plate. After grinding, the low areas are filled with levelling compound over the ground slab, primed to suit the concrete. Where an office floor wants a complete new screed, see commercial screeding.

For very large areas or thick coatings, shot blasting can be faster; it comes under floor preparation and shot blasting. We do not lay resin, but a ground slab is ready for a resin contractor if that is the finish chosen.

Extension joins and garage floors in Frimley homes

Homes need grinding for smaller but similar reasons. Extensions and knock-throughs are common in Frimley's post-war houses, and the new floor has to finish flush with the older slab. When it finishes a few millimetres proud, the lip is ground down so tiles or LVT cross the join cleanly, and a compound feathers out what is left.

Garages are another case. Paint or sealer on a garage slab has to come off before a screed, a bonded topping or flooring will hold, and grinding takes it back to bare concrete.

When carpet or vinyl is lifted in an older room, adhesive is often left behind. A thin, hard layer is ground away; thick or soft deposits are scraped first.

Depth is checked throughout. Over-grinding eats into a screed's minimum depth, so we take off only what the next layer needs.

Inside a house, dust extraction and sheeted doorways keep silica dust out of the rest of the home, and the floor is vacuumed before we leave. Grinders and diamond tooling are not something we sell or hire out; grinding is simply part of how our own team prepares a floor. Concrete floor grinding in Farnborough works the same way.

FAQs

Concrete Floor Grinding in Frimley: your questions

Is grinding or shot blasting better for a Frimley office floor?

It depends on the area and what is on it. Grinding suits removing adhesive, paint, thin coatings and high spots, and it gives fine control around edges and columns. Shot blasting can be quicker across a large open floor or a thick coating. On a Frimley Business Park refit, we look at the slab and recommend one, or both.

How much does concrete floor grinding take off a screed?

Usually very little, often just enough to remove contamination and the weak top skin. High spots and ridges take more in those places. Every screed has a minimum depth, and grinding too far can leave it below that, so we measure as we go and stop when the surface is sound and clean.

Can grinding remove a ridge where my Frimley extension meets the old floor?

Yes, if the new floor finishes slightly high. The lip is ground down, then a thin compound is feathered across both floors so LVT or tiles run through without a step. If the new floor sits lower than the old one, grinding is not the answer; the low side is built up with compound or screed instead.
