Liquid screed for single storey extensions in Havant
An extension floor has two jobs. First, whatever goes on top, tiles, LVT or engineered boards, needs a flat base; second, the new floor must line up with the one already in the house. Liquid screed is good at both. It flows out to a surface that meets SR1 or SR2 under a 2m straightedge without much effort, and its thinner build-up leaves more room for insulation. Laid floating in a house, a pumped screed can be as little as about 35mm, where a hand-laid one needs 65mm.
Speed is the other reason. A pump covers the whole floor of a typical extension in one visit, and because liquid screed shrinks so little it needs far fewer joints than a hand-laid floor, so a large open-plan kitchen does not have to be cut into bays. Foot traffic can usually return within 24 to 48 hours, and the next trades can get on.
Drying still takes time. Plan on about 40 days for the first 40mm, with every extra millimetre slower again, before anyone tests the moisture and fits the floor. What speeds that up or slows it down is explained in our screed drying times guide.
There are two kinds of pumped screed, one bound with calcium sulphate, the other with cement. The choice depends on whether any area may get wet and on the flooring going on top. For the material specification, its grades and the sanding it needs, see anhydrite flow screed in Havant.
Pumping into Havant flats, terraces and upper floors
How the screed reaches the room decides how the day runs. The hose can stretch a long way, but the mixer and pump still have to park near enough for it to go through your front door or up the stairs. With 18% of Havant's homes in purpose-built flats and only 15% detached, a lot of properties share walls and entrances, so the hose route and floor protection are agreed in advance. For a first floor flat in Havant, the hose climbs the communal stairs or comes through a window, so nobody hauls buckets of wet screed upstairs.
Street parking decides where the lorry stands. If the road outside is narrow or busy, we look at timing and positioning before the pour date, so the job is not held up on the morning.
On larger areas, such as the ground floors of a new build plot, the same equipment covers far more ground in a day. On published 2026 figures, a square metre of liquid screed costs £24 to £31, and our guide to screeding prices shows what pushes a quote up or down. The pump and lorry themselves are covered under pumping screed.
