Where a flowing screed fits Hertford houses and flats
Pumped straight from the mixer, liquid screed finds its own level and wraps fully round pipes and into corners. That makes it the natural choice for large, open floors: a kitchen extension on a post-war house, an open-plan ground floor in a newer home, or a run of flats poured one after another.
All three apply here. Some 24% of its homes were built since 2000, and extension slabs are a routine part of updating the older post-war and late twentieth century houses.
Hertford also has plenty of flats, and they matter here. Purpose-built blocks alone account for 25% of homes, and upper floors are where pumping is at its most useful, because the screed travels by hose instead of being carried up stairs.
Depth depends on use. Floating over insulation, it goes down from roughly 35mm in a house and roughly 40mm on a commercial floor. It readily meets SR1 or SR2, which allows no more than 3mm or 5mm of daylight beneath a 2m straightedge.
Even so, a pump does not suit every Hertford room. A small, awkward room in a cottage, a wet room laid to falls or a floor that needs an early heavy load may suit sand and cement better. Before choosing for a cottage room, read our pumped or hand-laid comparison.
Running the hose into Sele Farm and central Hertford
Every pumped pour starts outside. The lorry and pump have to park where the hose can reach the room, and everything along the route indoors gets covered. On a newer estate with driveways that is rarely difficult. In the old centre, where the street plan is medieval, it needs checking; kerb space, loading restrictions and the distance to the back of the property all affect how the day runs.
Tell us the address, whether it is in Sele Farm, Pine Hurst, Rush Green or near the centre, and describe the access when you ask for a price. Our screed pumping service explains how hoses are routed through a house and up to flats.
Give it 24 to 48 hours and you can usually cross the room on foot. Getting it dry enough for a floor covering is slower: about a day for each millimetre up to 40mm, longer past that, with the room well ventilated all the while.
