Getting the pump hose into a Rickmansworth home
The screed is mixed off site or at the kerb, then pumped down a hose onto the prepared floor. That means the pump and mixer need a place to stand, and the hose needs a clean route to the room with no kinks or tight bends. Ahead of the pour we want to know where the lorry can park, the distance to your door, whether the hose goes through the house or round the side, and what floor the room is on.
A semi with its own drive is normally straightforward. Terraces are 15% of Rickmansworth homes, and on those the hose usually has to come through the house, so we cover hall floors and door frames before it does. Flats are reachable too, because the pump can lift screed to upper storeys, but the run through a stairwell or shared lobby has to be cleared with the managing agent beforehand.
From Loudwater to Moneyhill to the town centre, tell us about yellow lines or permit bays when you ask for a quote. Getting a bay suspended, or starting early, can decide whether the pour goes smoothly or slips. How the kit is set up is explained on our screed pumping service page. Pump hire without our crew is not something we offer.
With the hose in place, a big open ground floor can be done in a morning, and that speed is why builders pick liquid screed for extensions.
Depth, flatness and drying in Croxley Green extensions
In a house, a floating liquid screed generally begins at around 35mm, sitting on insulation and a membrane. Because it finds its own level as it is poured, the cured floor is dense and flat, and hitting SR1 or SR2 regularity is realistic. Large tiles and LVT need exactly that, since they show any dip. Over heating pipes you need a minimum of 25mm on top, taking the whole build to about 45 to 50mm, and our underfloor heating screed page goes through it.
Your electrician and joiner can usually tread on it 24 to 48 hours later. Flooring, on the other hand, has to wait for a properly dry screed. A working rule is a day per millimetre for the first 40mm, slower after that, with a test before anything is laid. To weigh drying and cost against the traditional mix, read liquid versus sand and cement screed.
Two binder types are available for flowing floors: calcium sulphate, or cement. For a Croxley Green or Batchworth extension the right one depends on the rooms, any heating and the finish you want, and the quote spells that out. For a Croxley Green kitchen floor, set aside £24 to £31 per m²; that band comes from our 2026 price list. A few miles west, we also pour liquid screed in Chorleywood.
