Which screed fits which part of Enfield
Census 2021 counted 329,984 people in Enfield, and the borough grew around four older centres: Edmonton, Enfield itself, Southgate and Palmers Green. Each part of it asks something slightly different of a floor.
Take the between-the-wars semis and terraces of Southgate, Bush Hill Park, Winchmore Hill and Palmers Green: when their owners build out at the back or redo the ground floor, insulation and wet heating pipes tend to go in at the same time. A new open floor of that kind suits pumped liquid screed, while a heated room needs the pipe cover and warm-up plan explained on our Enfield underfloor heating screed page.
Older terraces in Edmonton and Ponders End are a different job. Some of them may have nothing to stop damp coming up through the ground floor, so when one gives out it is usually broken up and replaced: membrane first, then insulation, then a hand-laid sand and cement screed that works around small rooms and awkward thresholds.
At the other end of the scale, the new flats planned at Meridian Water will be built with pumped liquid screeds and acoustic layers. If a block's drawings call up a calcium sulphate grade, our Enfield page on anhydrite flow screed deals with the sanding, testing and priming that follow.
Plenty of floors need none of this. A sound but uneven slab under a new kitchen can usually be made ready for LVT or tiles with levelling compound, which is quicker and cheaper than a new screed.

Access, pump parking and pour dates in Enfield
A pumped screed arrives as a mixer and a pump that need to stand close enough for a hose to reach the room. Outside a semi with its own drive, the mixer and pump just park up. Where a house fronts a busy road or a controlled parking street, tell us when you ask for a price, and mention side passages, shared alleys or a flat above a shop, because those decide how the hose is run and whether a bay suspension or permit is needed.
Getting the date right is the other half. We want the extension closed in against rain, the plasterer gone and any heating loop pressure tested before we pour. After that it needs to dry before tiles, wood or LVT, and depth drives how long that takes. Book the floor layer first and fit the kitchen and flooring around it.
Enfield's trade and warehouse units are a different kind of floor again. Brimsdown Industrial Estate takes in the Watermill, Sovereign and Leeside Business Centres and Riverwalk Business Park, with the Trafalgar and Centenary Trading Estates close by, and there is the Great Cambridge Industrial Estate too. Units like these need level, durable floors, and a unit being refitted may need repair or a new wearing layer, which falls under our commercial screeding service.
