Which screed fits which part of Barnet
Census 2021 counted 389,344 people in the borough, living anywhere from Golders Green and Hendon at the southern end to Chipping Barnet and the Green Belt villages of Totteridge and Arkley at the top. Sort the floors across that spread and three kinds of job keep turning up, each with its own page.
Split houses come first. Once an older house is turned into flats, it gains bathrooms, kitchens and floors shared with the neighbours below, so an acoustic screed or a levelling coat has to go in ahead of the finish. If the original solid floor has given up, or a wet room needs a fall to its drain, hand-laid sand and cement in Barnet does that work, while a floor that is sound but wavy can usually be rescued with self levelling compound for Barnet floors.
Then there are the inter-war semis strung along both arms of the Northern line. Plenty of these get a rear extension, and the new room is normally built up with insulation, a membrane and screed, quite often with heating pipes in it. Before picking a screed for a warm floor, have a look at screeding over heating pipes in Barnet.
Last comes the new building, mostly on the western side. Colindale is planned for more than 10,000 new homes, Grahame Park is being rebuilt and Brent Cross Town is a large regeneration project. Those floor plates suit pumped liquid screed, poured level by level. If the engineer has written a calcium sulphate grade on the drawings, our anhydrite page spells out what that asks of the floor.
Edgware, Mill Hill, Finchley, Friern Barnet, New Barnet, New Southgate and Cricklewood are all on our patch too.

Parking, access and timing a pour in Barnet
Barnet jobs are often won or lost on getting material to the room. Pumping means our kit needs a parking spot close enough that the hose can get from the road to your door. Streets with controlled parking or a bus route outside may need a bay suspension or a permit for the day, so mention it in your enquiry. An upper-floor flat is fine as long as the hose can run up a stairwell that is clear and protected. Sand and cement goes in by barrow and bucket instead: slower, but no pump has to park anywhere.
The calendar counts too. Before we pour, the room has to be shut against the weather, the plasterers have to have finished their wet work and any heating pipes need their pressure test. After that, the floor sits and dries before the flooring fitter can start, for a length of time set by its depth and what it is made of; our screed drying times guide goes through it.
Shop and office floors sit outside this page. Retail units and offices around Brent Cross, and the new offices in the wider Brent Cross Cricklewood scheme, go through our commercial screeding service.
