Brent's housing, from Kilburn to Kingsbury
Census 2021 counted 339,816 people in Brent, living in a strip of north west London that changes character from one end to the other. Across that strip, the screeding work divides three ways.
In Kilburn and Brondesbury, large Victorian and Edwardian houses have often been split into flats. Floors there tend to need taking back to the subfloor and bringing level before new finishes, with acoustic screeds between flats. That work leans on hand-laid sand and cement screed in Brent for bathrooms and dug-out floors, and on self levelling compound for flat floors before LVT, tiles or timber.
Further out, much of the west was laid out as early twentieth century Metroland. The inter-war semis in Kingsbury and Queensbury suit extension slabs and heated floors, which is the subject of our Brent underfloor heating screed page.
Then there is the new building. Wembley is Brent's biggest growth area, planned for over 15,000 new homes, and Alperton, South Kilburn and the Old Oak and Park Royal area all carry large housing targets. The towers going up around Wembley Park and along the canal at Alperton are mostly liquid screed pumped floor by floor over heating pipes, and a block specified in calcium sulphate is covered on the Brent anhydrite page.
We also cover Harlesden, Willesden, Neasden, Dollis Hill, Stonebridge, North Wembley and Kensal Rise.

Access and pour dates on Brent streets
Half the work on a Brent floor is getting there. Pumping means finding the mixer and its pump a spot from which the hose can reach the building. On controlled parking streets and bus routes a bay suspension may be needed for the day, so list any restrictions in your enquiry. In a conversion, the hose can climb the stairwell to an upper flat, provided it is clear and sheeted over.
Sand and cement laid by hand flips the trade-off. No pump space is needed, but every bag goes in on someone's shoulder, which is slow on a top-floor flat and priced to match.
Dates hang on the other trades. Before we pour, the room must be closed in against the weather, the wet plastering must be done and any heating pipes must have been pressure tested. Once poured, the floor needs drying time before flooring, and how long depends on its depth and its material.
Postcodes here include HA0, HA9, NW2, NW6, NW9 and NW10. Offices and commercial units, including those at Park Royal and Wembley Park, are priced through our commercial screeding service.
