Which screed fits which Hammersmith and Fulham building
Census 2021 recorded 183,157 residents in the borough, and for flooring purposes their homes fall into three broad groups: period houses, flats carved out of period houses, and new buildings on the big regeneration sites. Each group points to a different screed.
Fulham, Parsons Green, Brook Green and Ravenscourt Park are known for costly Victorian and Edwardian houses. Floors in buildings of that age tend to need new membranes under basement and ground floor extensions, or a solid ground floor broken out and rebuilt with insulation. Hand-laid sand and cement screed for period houses copes with the small rooms, steps and wet areas those jobs involve.
Where a terrace has been split into flats, sound travels through the floor, so acoustic screeds and levelling over old joists are the usual jobs in a conversion.
Fulham's tightly packed terraces are often extended at the back, with underfloor heating across a new kitchen. Pipe cover and the warm-up schedule decide whether that floor performs, so read about heated floors in Hammersmith and Fulham before the pipes go down.
At White City and Earls Court, new buildings use liquid screed across large floor plates. For open areas that suit a pump, see pumped liquid screed. If a CA grade appears on the drawings, anhydrite screed in Hammersmith and Fulham walks through the grades, the sanding and the moisture testing.
Solid but uneven floors rarely need taking up; a thin coat of self levelling compound usually sorts them.

Pumps, parking and pour dates in Shepherd's Bush and Fulham
Pumped floors bring a mixer and pump that stay out on the road, with a hose fed from them into the house and through to whichever room is being done. On a terraced street that means deciding in advance where the lorry stops, whether a parking bay needs reserving and how the hose passes along a narrow hallway. For an upper floor flat the hose may go up a stairwell or through a window, which is worth agreeing with the freeholder and neighbours first. Photos of the frontage sent with your enquiry let us plan the day properly.
Then there is the order of work. Screed goes into a Fulham extension late in the build: once the roof and glazing make it weathertight, the plasterers have packed up their wet work and the heating installer has tested the pipework under pressure. Tiles, wood or LVT then wait for the screed to dry, so set the flooring fitter's date by the screed, not the reverse.
Offices and other commercial space work to their own timetable. The borough's office buildings in Hammersmith, which include UK head offices for Disney and L'Oréal, and the larger schemes at White City and Earls Court are usually refitted to a tenant's programme, with the floor booked between strip-out and fit-out. Our commercial screeding service covers work at that scale.
