Old houses and new flats across Hounslow
Census 2021 recorded 288,181 people in the London Borough of Hounslow, and 45% of its homes are flats. That shapes a lot of the floor work. In Brentford, where flats are the majority, newer apartment schemes call for thin, level screeds over acoustic layers and underfloor heating. A Brentford flat like that normally gets liquid screed pumped up from the street. Should the architect have written a calcium sulphate grade on the plans, our Hounslow page on anhydrite grades walks through it.
The houses tell a different story. Feltham's Hanworth Road still has Victorian and Edwardian houses whose ground floors often lack a damp proof membrane. Damp then rises into carpets, timber and tile adhesive. The cure is to break the old floor out and start again, with a membrane, then insulation, then screed, and on a Hanworth Road house that is worked one room at a time, which is where a site-mixed sand and cement floor fits.
Where a semi or terrace gains a rear extension or a heated kitchen, the depth over the pipes decides the build-up, as set out on the underfloor heating screed page.
Not every floor needs replacing. If yours is firm but wavy, compound poured over it can get it ready for LVT or tiles, costing less than fresh screed, finishing sooner and drying in a fraction of the time. Where it is past that, our screed repairs service looks at patching before a full relay.

Pump access and pour timing from Chiswick to Feltham
Start with where the pump will go. The hose only stretches so far, so the mixer and pump have to stop near enough to your front door. On streets with controlled parking, a bay suspension or a visitor permit may be needed, and in a block of flats the hose goes up the stairwell. Put the parking and the way in with your quote request, and the day itself runs without surprises.
Timing matters as much. On a Heston or Isleworth extension, we pour when the glazing and doors are in, the plasterer has finished, and any heating pipes are down and have passed their pressure test. The flooring fitter comes later, when the screed has dried, so book the pour early and build the programme around it.
Larger schemes are part of the borough's picture too. Brentford's old factory sites are being rebuilt as apartments and offices, and the council's Feltham Masterplan sets out change there over fifteen years. In Feltham, The Centre was rebuilt in 2006 with shops, a hotel and around 800 homes, the kind of mixed scheme that needs large screed pours.
