Three kinds of Littlehampton floor and the screed for each
Away from East Beach and the seafront, most of Littlehampton is ordinary housing of mixed age, and Census 2021 counted 19,060 people in the built-up area. Floors here fall into three groups.
First, the older terraces nearer the river and the town centre. Their solid ground floors often fail with age, and the fix is to take the old floor up and relay it over a new membrane. In small rooms and narrow hallways, hand-laid sand and cement screed is the practical material.
Next come the semis out towards Wick and Toddington, built after the war and through the 1970s to 1990s as the town spread to take those places in. These houses are prime candidates for kitchen extensions. The new floor has to match the existing floor level, using either sand and cement or pumped liquid screed for an open-plan extension. Planning pipes in the floor? Look at heated floor screeding before the slab level is fixed.
Third, flats. They account for 31% of Littlehampton's homes, a figure that counts converted houses as well as blocks built as flats. A hose up the stairs is the easy way to screed a first or second floor flat, and if the paperwork for a block calls for a calcium sulphate grade, the anhydrite page on this site sets out what that means.
Not every floor needs replacing. A solid floor with dips and ridges can often be put right with a pour of levelling compound, which is faster and cheaper than screeding again.

Littlehampton trade units and build timing
Lineside Industrial Estate, off Eldon Way and the A259 bypass north of the town centre, has 28 industrial and trade counter units, including four speculative units finished in 2022. Toddington also has a large business park. Warehouse and trade counter floors like these need high strength screeds, levelling and repairs rather than domestic products, and the work is usually timed between tenants. Our commercial screeding service covers it.
On a house extension, our visit lands about halfway through the job. By then the roof and windows should be in, the plasterer gone and any heating pipes tested under pressure. How long the floor then takes to dry varies with its depth and the screed chosen, so fix your kitchen and flooring dates once the pour date is known.
Access matters for a pumped pour. Our mixer and pump must be close enough for the hose to get to the room. Semis with a drive are simple. A terrace with no front parking takes planning, so tell us about the street, any yellow lines and how far the room is from the kerb when you ask for a price.
