From Sidcup to Erith: matching screed to Bexley homes
Bexley moved from Kent into Greater London in 1965, and Census 2021 counted 246,472 people living across its centres: Bexleyheath, Sidcup, Erith, Welling, Crayford, Belvedere and Old Bexley. Former estate land at Blackfen, Lamorbey and Falconwood was broken up for suburban building once the railways arrived.
With so many inter-war semis in Welling, Blackfen and Bexleyheath, most domestic floors here are extensions. A rear or side extension has to tie into the existing ground floor, which may be suspended timber or a thin concrete slab, and the new room often gets insulation and heating over a membrane. Start with our underfloor heating screed page for Bexley if the extension will be heated.
Older terraces around Erith and Northumberland Heath are a different job. Their solid floors tend to need taking up and relaying, which usually means hand-laid sand and cement screed in Bexley.
In the north, new flats and houses in the Belvedere and Erith growth areas call for pumped liquid screed over heating pipes, with acoustic layers between flats. If the drawings for those blocks call up a calcium sulphate mix, the Bexley anhydrite page explains what that involves.
We also cover Barnehurst, Crayford, Slade Green, Foots Cray, North Cray, Longlands, East Wickham, Upper and Lower Belvedere and the rest of the borough. Postcodes here include DA5, DA7, DA14, DA15, DA16 and SE2.

Planning a pour on a Bexley extension
On an extension, the screed date is boxed in by the trades before and after it. The shell needs its roof, with windows and doors in, and the plasterer's wet work has to be finished. Any heating pipes must already be down and have passed their pressure test. Once all that is done, the floor can be poured.
Drying follows. You can usually walk on a liquid screed after 24 to 48 hours, yet the flooring fitter still has to wait for a moisture reading, and a deeper sand and cement floor needs longer again. Fit the kitchen and the tiler's dates around the screed rather than squeezing the screed in around them.
On most Bexley suburban streets getting in is straightforward: when we pump, the pump and mixer sit on the drive or at the kerb, and the hose needs a clear run to the room. If the house has no drive and the side passage is the only way through, say so in your enquiry.
Floors at the borough's Strategic Industrial Locations, from Belvedere Industrial Area and Erith Riverside to the Foots Cray Business Area, are priced through our commercial screeding service, separately from home floors.
