Old floors, newer houses: a screed for each Marlow home
Census 2021 counted 14,641 people in the Marlow built-up area, living in a fairly even spread of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses. Before anything else, find out when yours was built, because that shapes what the floor needs.
Many of Marlow's pre-1919 houses have floors with no insulation, and some were laid without a damp proof membrane. Put new tiles or boards straight on top and the room stays cold while the damp comes through. A dig-out and relay sorts it properly: the old floor comes up, and insulation, a membrane and new screed go down in its place. Each room is rebuilt in turn, and for that kind of work sand and cement mixed and laid by hand is the natural material.
Plenty of the town is younger, with 30% of homes dating from 1973 to 1999. When any Marlow house gains an extension or has walls knocked through for a larger kitchen, that broad new floor is well suited to pumped liquid screed for Marlow extensions, which levels out in a single visit.
Heating going in under the new room? Then the depth over the pipes and the way the system is first warmed deserve as much thought as the screed, and our screed over underfloor heating page covers both.
Spot CA-C25-F5, or a similar code, on a Marlow specification and you are looking at calcium sulphate; drying and sanding for that material are explained on the calcium sulphate flow screed page. And if the floor is solid, only bumpy, a pour of levelling compound could be enough before the new boards or tiles.

Planning a pour in Marlow and at Globe Business Park
Book the screed around the rest of the build, not the other way about. Have the windows and doors in, the wet plaster finished and any heating pipes pressure tested, so the room is weathertight before the pour date comes round. Once poured, the floor needs time to dry before its finish, so set the flooring date only after the screed date is fixed. Hurrying that stage is a common cause of new finishes lifting or cracking.
For pumping, we need parking for the machines somewhere the hose can reach your door from. Narrow lanes, parking controls or a long garden path are all worth mentioning when you ask for a price, so the set-up can be planned to suit.
Beside the A404, Globe Business Park holds offices and warehouses, among them Atlas House on Third Avenue and Jubilee House. Eclipse, also on the park, has been through a back to frame refurbishment, and work on that scale routinely involves floor levelling and new screeds before raised floors or finishes are fitted. That kind of job, from a single office floor to a whole building, falls under our commercial screeding service.
