Matching screed to Coventry's inter-war and post-war homes
Coventry's housing reflects two big growth spurts, and each leaves its own kind of floor.
Inter-war terraces and semis, in areas such as Coundon and Cheylesmore, often keep their original solid floors. Doing one up normally starts with a breaker on that old concrete, then a damp proof membrane and insulation, with screed on top ready for new flooring or heating pipes. Hand-laid sand and cement screed in Coventry handles those smaller rooms well, and adding pipes at the same time is covered on underfloor heating screed for Coventry homes.
Post-war estates like Tile Hill include blocks of flats, among them the Banana flats on Jardine Crescent, where acoustic screeds and floor levelling are part of any refurbishment. Getting a floor flat enough for new finishes is the subject of our Coventry floor levelling page.
Newer homes, open-plan extensions and new housing on mixed-use sites, such as the former factory land at Tile Hill, suit pumped liquid screed, which goes down flat in a single visit and can usually be walked on within 24 to 48 hours. A builder on a site such as the Tile Hill factory land, whose specification sets a calcium sulphate grade, will find that handled on our anhydrite flow screed page.
Census 2021 counted 344,289 people in the Coventry built-up area. We cover the whole city, from Allesley Green, Earlsdon and Finham to Foleshill, Holbrooks, Binley and Bell Green.

Access, parking and timing across Coventry
A city of terraced streets brings particular access questions. Where a house has no drive and the road is lined with parked cars, the mixer has to stand close enough for the hose to reach, and parking may need arranging in advance. For a pumped screed, the hose can run through the front door and hall to a rear extension, protected along the way. In a block of flats, it climbs the stairwell. We settle where the Coventry mixer will stand with you first, and only then fix the price.
Timing is the other half. A screed goes in once walls are plastered and pipes are tested, and before skirtings and doors. Flooring then waits on drying, which in a Coventry kitchen runs at near enough 1mm a day for 40mm and slower once past that depth. When a floor is dug out and rebuilt in an inter-war semi, the kitchen fitter and flooring contractor both follow the screed, so its drying time belongs in the programme from the start.
Business premises in and around Coventry keep a separate timetable. Business sites, such as Ansty Park just outside the city or the small industrial units on former factory land at Tile Hill, are covered by our commercial screeding service.
