Choosing a screed for a Kenilworth home
Census 2021 counted 22,239 people in the Kenilworth built-up area. The town grew around the ruins of its castle and abbey, then the railway's arrival in 1844 pulled it south, and many large Victorian houses were later demolished to make way for new housing. The result is a town of mostly post-war houses with older pockets near the centre.
Post-war detached and semi-detached houses set the typical job: a kitchen extension or garden room, where a new floor must finish level with the original slab. Wide, open rooms like that suit pumped liquid screed, which goes down flat and thin. Many of those extensions also take heating pipes, so read about screed over underfloor heating early, because pipe cover sets the floor depth.
The older properties near the High Street conservation area and around Abbey Fields are different. Underneath, some of them sit on solid floors that were never given a damp proof membrane. Before anything new goes on top, the floor needs proper preparation, and where it has failed, a rebuild with a membrane and a traditional sand and cement screed.
On new build plots where a calcium sulphate grade is named, our anhydrite flow screed page explains the specification. Elsewhere, a solid floor that is merely wavy can often be put right for tiles or LVT with a thin coat of levelling compound.

Planning the pour around a Kenilworth build
We cover the whole town, including Abbey End, Borrowell, Castle Green, Crackley, Ladyes Hills, Mill End, Park Hill, St Johns, Whitemoor and Windy Arbour. Postcodes here include CV8.
Your screed date sits partway through the build rather than at the finish. By pour day the extension wants its roof on and openings closed, the plastering done and dried off, and any heating loops tested under pressure. Drying time follows, and it depends on the screed and its depth, so the kitchen fitter and floor layer are booked around it.
Outside, we need somewhere to park the pump and mixer that a hose can reach the door from. A driveway makes that easy. Where a house is in the older streets near the centre, mention parking, narrow access or a shared passage when you ask for a price.
Talisman Square, the 1960s shopping precinct modernised in 2008 with a new Waitrose supermarket, is the main commercial block in the town centre, and unit refits there suit levelling or a quick drying screed so a shop can reopen sooner. Our commercial screeding service covers shop and office floors.
