Which screed suits which kind of Redhill home
Census 2021 counted 32,516 people in the Redhill built-up area, and their homes range from Victorian and Edwardian houses to blocks finished in the last few years. What sits under the floor now, and how old the walls around it are, decides the method.
Around St John's and Redhill Common, the Victorian and Edwardian houses predate damp proof membranes. When a ground floor there is opened up, it normally comes out and goes back with a membrane, insulation and a new screed. Rooms in houses of that age are often small and broken up, which suits a hand-laid sand and cement screed for period houses, and the same method forms falls in a wet room.
On Redhill's post-war semis, the typical project is a garage conversion or a new room built out at the back. A wide, new extension floor is where a pumped liquid screed pays off, finding its own level across the room and taking light foot traffic within 24 to 48 hours.
Watercolour, built from 2008 to 2012 around lakes on a former gravel quarry, is newer housing again. Homes like these are more likely to add a kitchen extension or garden room whose floor and heating must line up with what is already there, so read about screeding over underfloor heating pipes before the groundworks are set out.
Then there are the flats. Refurbishments and conversions need floors that keep sound insulation intact, and many call for repair or levelling rather than a full new screed. If the block's specification calls for a particular calcium sulphate grade, the anhydrite and flow screed notes decode it.

Parking a pump and timing the pour in Redhill
Your screed date hangs on the trades around it, because the floor goes down partway through the job. Before we pour, windows and doors need to be in, the plasterer finished and any heating circuit pressure tested. Afterwards the floor needs drying time before tiles, wood or LVT, so book the screed early and let the flooring fitter follow it rather than the reverse.
Pumped screed means a mixer and pump outside your house, with a hose fed through the closest doorway. Off-street parking on a Redhill drive keeps that simple. For an upper floor flat, the hose can be taken up a stairwell, but the route must be clear, protected and agreed with the managing agent in advance. Mention parking permits, loading restrictions or a shared entrance when you send the details, and the plan for the day can be fixed with the price.
Warehouse and workshop floors are planned on different terms. Holmethorpe Industrial Estate, north of the Brighton Main Line, has 66 member businesses, and Kingsfield Business Centre and Reading Arch provide further units. Warehouse and workshop slabs there call for concrete floor repair, grinding and high strength screeds, which our commercial screeding service covers. In the town centre, schemes such as The Light and the Warwick Quadrant involve preparing retail floors for new finishes.
