Which floor suits which part of Huntingdon
Census 2021 counted 25,603 people in the Huntingdon built-up area. The town takes in Hartford to the east and the newer areas of Oxmoor, Stukeley Meadows and Hinchingbrooke to the north and west, and it also includes Belle Isle, Brampton Park, Green End, Newtown, Owl End, Sapley and Stukeley. We cover all of them.
Post-war building dominates. Almost a third of the town, 30%, went up between 1945 and 1972, and the later twentieth century added plenty more. In homes of these ages an extension or kitchen knock-through is a common reason for screed work, and a wide open floor suits pumped liquid screed in Huntingdon. Should the new room have pipes in the floor, our Huntingdon heated screed page goes through cover depths and the first warm-up.
Terraced homes are a different case. Some have uneven or cracked screeds worth repairing before new flooring. A sound but uneven floor can be brought flat with levelling compound; one that has broken up needs digging out and relaying, usually in hand-laid sand and cement. Where only part of a terrace floor has given way, patch repairs to failed screed may be all it needs.
The next wave is north of town at Alconbury Weald, a former RAF and USAF airfield where more than 5,000 homes are planned alongside an enterprise zone. New homes there are the likeliest in the area to use underfloor heating with a flowing screed, and where a calcium sulphate grade is specified, our anhydrite page explains the material, its grades and its drying.

Huntingdon access, timing and commercial floors
A pumped screed needs its mixer and pump near the door. Houses with driveways make this easy. For flats and terraces, tell us about parking, permits, shared entrances and upper-floor routes when you ask for a price, so the hose run is planned before the day.
Timing follows the build. On a Huntingdon build we pour once the house is weathertight with the wet plaster done, and after any heating pipes are down and pressure tested. Flooring has to wait for the screed to dry, and how long that takes turns on its depth and the material. Planning the kitchen fitter and tiler around that drying period saves arguments later.
Huntingdon also has a sizeable commercial side. Stukeley Meadows Industrial Estate on Blackstone Road, west of the railway, houses firms such as Hilton Food Group and Howdens, and there is more industrial stock along St Peters Road to the east. Hinchingbrooke Business Park has offices and warehouses, and the Alconbury Weald enterprise zone is adding office, manufacturing and light industrial space. Unit floors in places like these may need repair, preparation, levelling or a new hard wearing screed between tenants, and each is priced from its own survey.
