Screeding Contractors in March

K & B Screeding lays liquid, sand and cement and heated floor screeds across March, from Knight's End and Peas Hill to Town End and Norwoodside. The fact that shapes most floors here is the mix of homes: 43% of homes in March are detached, and detached houses from later decades are the ones most likely to need an extension floor or a conservatory conversion. Measured as the crow flies, March is about 77 miles out from the Slough base we run from, yet a PE15 customer still has the cost settled on paper ahead of the first barrow of screed.

Choosing the right screed for a March home

March grew as a fenland railway town, and its housing still tells that story. Census 2021 counted 21,345 people in the built-up area, and its homes run from Victorian and inter-war houses to detached houses from later decades and new plots. Each of those needs a different floor, and the choice depends as much on the building as on the finish you want on top.

The older houses are the ones with tired solid floors. Some were laid with no damp proof membrane, and once a renovation starts the old slab often has to come out. A hand-laid sand and cement screed over new insulation and a membrane is the usual answer there, because it can be laid in small rooms and awkward shapes.

Later detached homes tend to need something bigger: an extension floor or a conservatory conversion across one open space. A pumped liquid screed suits that kind of area, and it is the natural partner for heated floors over wet pipes. Should an architect's drawing for a March plot name a calcium sulphate grade, the March anhydrite page covers what follows.

A fresh screed is not always due, either. If the base is sound but uneven, a thin compound through our floor levelling service may be enough before new flooring goes down. We will say which route fits once we have seen photos or measurements.

Timing a pour around building work in March

Screed is usually one of the middle trades. The walls are up, the roof is on and the windows are in, but plastering and flooring have not started. Getting that order right saves weeks.

For a liquid pour the building needs to be weathertight and the room clear, with insulation, membrane and edge strip down. For sand and cement the same applies, and the screed then needs time to dry before tiles or wood go on. Book the screed once the shell is sealed, and plan the kitchen fitter and floor layer around the drying time rather than the pour date.

Access matters too. A pump and mixer need somewhere to stand, so tell us whether the house has a drive, a shared entrance or only on-street parking. If the pump has to stand on the road, we agree its position with you before the day, so the pour starts on time.

For trade and industrial units, such as those on March Industrial Estate or off Hostmoor Avenue, the programme often revolves around a tenant moving in. Those jobs may call for commercial screeding rather than a domestic floor, and we price them in the same way: a written figure agreed before anyone starts.

FAQs

Screeding in March: your questions

Who lays floor screed in March, Cambridgeshire?

K & B Screeding covers March and the surrounding Fenland towns from our base in Slough, laying liquid, sand and cement, heated and calcium sulphate screeds for homeowners, builders and site managers. We give a written, fixed price within 24 hours and call back the same day, so you know the cost before you book a date.

What do I need ready before a screeder arrives at a March extension?

The extension should be weathertight, with doors and windows fitted and the room cleared. Board insulation down, membrane over it, edge strip taped along each wall; with wet heating going in too, your heating installer ought to have clipped the pipes and run a pressure test ahead of our arrival. Tell us about parking and access so the pump or mixer can be positioned on the day.

Do you also cover towns close to March?

Yes. We work across this part of the fens, including Chatteris, Whittlesey and Ely, as well as Peterborough. The same rules apply everywhere: we look at the floor, the build-up and the access, then send a fixed written price. Nothing is added once work has started.
