Which screed fits which Northfleet home
Census 2021 counted 29,892 people in the Northfleet built-up area, living in homes that run from pre-1919 terraces to houses finished in the last few years. How old a building is settles most decisions about its floor.
Pre-1919 terraces often come with worn or uneven solid ground floors. When one of those is broken out, it is rebuilt with a membrane, insulation and a new hand-laid sand and cement screed, which copes well with small rooms, tight hallways and awkward thresholds.
Perry Street and the estates at Shears Green, Istead Rise and Downs Road make up much of the rest of the town. On those estates, knocking the kitchen through into a new rear room leaves one wide floor, and that floor suits pumped liquid screed for big open rooms. The mix settles flat by itself, and people can be walking over it a day or two later, within 24 to 48 hours. Planning warm pipes under that new floor? Read up on screeding over heating pipes in Northfleet for how deep the pipes are buried and how soon you can switch on.
At Cable Wharf and similar schemes, the typical job is liquid screed in houses and apartments, finished flat enough for click flooring and tiles. Plans for schemes like that sometimes call up a calcium sulphate grade by name, and what that material needs once poured, sanding and a moisture check, is explained under anhydrite flow screed.
Not every tired Northfleet floor has to come up, either. If the slab underneath is solid and simply uneven, levelling it with compound before the new flooring usually does the job in less time and for less money than screeding again.

Timing the pour and parking the pump in Northfleet
Your screed date is fixed by the builders who go before it and the fitters who come after. We need the room shut against the weather when we turn up, with glass in the windows, outside doors hung, wet plastering out of the way and any heating pipes already pressure tested. Once it is down, the floor has to dry out before the tiler, the joiner or the LVT fitter can start, and a deeper floor takes longer. So pencil in your flooring fitter once the screed date is settled, rather than the reverse.
Access matters just as much. Pumping means the mixer lorry must park near enough that its hose stretches to your front step. A driveway makes that easy, while a tight terraced street takes more thought. Mention parking bays, a shared passage between houses or a flat a few storeys up when you ask us to price, and we can plan the day around it.
Commercial floors are a different scale of job. Northfleet Industrial Estate sits between the A226 and the Thames, and Crete Hall Road is home to Kimberly-Clark's mill and the 168,249 sq ft Northfleet 168 warehouse. Springhead Enterprise Park and Ebbsfleet Industrial Estate add further units. Large slabs like these need flat, hard-wearing floors, and our commercial screeding service covers floors at that scale, including repairs and grinding.
